Relish the Experience
My friend, Tracey Karm, joined me on my recent Road Trips For Food (RTFF.) This time we went to Relish in West Palm Beach. I think Tracey best summed up the experience with the following Facebook post, “Salted Caramel Milkshake at Relish- OMG!!! Should be on that show on the Food Network – The Best Thing I Ever Ate.”
Relish is not one of my typical RTFF locations. Generally, I select a restaurant that has plenty of dessert choices, all made in-house. Yet, Relish had to be an exception for the following reason: they make the very best milkshakes I have ever had.
Nine of us went to Relish, some repeat customers, some new to the scene. There was a buzz of excitement as we looked at all of the choices. First decision to make was which burger. With 12 burgers to choose from and 20 relishes that can match so beautifully with the burgers, one could take a while to decide what to order.
And that was just for the accompaniment to the ‘main’ dish…the milkshake. Did I mention that there are 14 milkshakes on the menu? This really was a challenging time for me.
I, actually, ordered a Salted Caramel milkshake, then switched my order to a Chocolate Covered Cherry milkshake. Ultimately, I combined the ingredients I was craving so I could end up with a Chocolate Salted Caramel milkshake, which is not on the menu. Isn’t it FABULOUS to find such a flexible restaurant?
Our table ended up with two Chocolate Salted Caramel milkshakes, each with a gigantic piece of salted caramel brittle on top; 1 Chocolate Covered Cherry milkshake, complete with a chocolate covered cherry on top; 1 Cookies N’ Cream topped with an Oreo cookie; 1 Chocolate Truffle with a chocolate truffle on top; and 1 Salted Caramel, also topped with salted caramel brittle.
I am not sure that I can, really, pick a favorite. Each milkshake starts with premium soft serve ice cream and then the finest of ingredients are added. They are all blended to perfection: firm enough to make you work for it with the straw but not so watery as to allow the drinker to think, even for a moment, that this is merely a cup of milk with some delicious additives.
This visit to Relish afforded me the opportunity to try something I know I would not have tried, had it not been for the Road Trips For Food. Relish, also, bakes hot fresh donuts, made from scratch. As a general rule, I tend not to order donuts, because most of the time, they are not worth the calories that I would prefer to put towards other desserts. I am so thankful that I did, because these donuts are outrageous.
The donut resembles a cake donut, that has been elevated to a new level. If you have ever baked a cake and you gently touch the top of it to see if it springs back, then you will appreciate that the inside of these donuts springs back, when gently touched. The cinnamon sugar, sprinkled all over them, is just the right amount and with five donuts per serving, there are plenty to share, if you are so inclined.
The next time you are trying to figure out where to go for a bite to eat, and you want a lot of delicious burger options, incredible milkshake choices and hands down the freshest donuts I have had in this town, head over to Relish. I am confident you will ‘relish’ the experience, just as the nine of us did this past week.
