Who am I?
I am someone who walks into a restaurant and asks to see the dessert menu before I am able to order my meal. Hearing about a new bakery or chocolate shop entices me to visit, no matter how far out of the way it is. I love reading about desserts and sweets. I love watching someone create something beautiful and delicious out of common ingredients and don’t get me started about what is done with the ‘odd’ ingredient. Wow! I love finding and ordering treats from all over, eagerly awaiting their arrival and discovering if I feel like the reality lives up to the hype.
I have loved desserts for as long as I can remember. Growing up I loved the smell of freshly baked challah in my maternal great-grandmother’s kitchen, the incredible butter cookies from my paternal grandmother and the perfect pies my mother used to bake when company came over.
My love of baking started then with brownies and Nana’s Butter Cookies and developed into all kinds of desserts once I graduated college. When I was married, the only things I really knew how to fix in the kitchen, at least initially, were desserts. My meals were not very good, but desserts were delicious. There were four options when it came to dinner…bring in; eat out; my ex-husband cooked; fend for ourselves. I loved the last option as it meant I had dessert for dinner.
Through the years, I have sold advertising time, owned a small baking business, taught baking classes and had a baking segment on our local NBC television affiliate for a period of time while juggling marriage, raising four children and volunteering in our community. Now my oldest two (Joshua and Nathaniel) have graduated college, Shoshana is in college and Samuel is enjoying second grade.
I bake all the time and go through “must have” dessert cravings pretty often. I love creating cakes, cheesecakes, brownies, cookies, tarts, pies, mousses and puddings. I love hearing about a recipe and trying it out. Experimenting is part of the excitement on the journey to satisfy my non-stop love of desserts.
This blog is a part of the adventure. I hope you have as much fun reading my blog as I have writing it and that it inspires you to try some new recipes and/or check out some great finds.
