DessertQuestNYC part 2 of 3
As I mentioned in part 1 of my #DessertQuestNYC, it wasn’t realistic to write about all 20 plus stops in one post without overwhelming everyone. With stops this enticing my goal is to allow you to journey with me one sweet treat at a time.
As we continued to weave our way through lower Manhattan, we stopped at Aux Merveilleux de Fred where we tried a merveilleux – meringue coated in whipped cream, the history of which dates back to the late 18th century in northern France. Meringue is the same for all of the merveilleux, while the whipped cream flavors vary. Each piece is in and of itself a beauty to see. It was fun watching through the window as they were being made.
Li-lac Chocolates is the oldest chocolatier in Manhattan. There used to be a Mom and Pop chocolatier in Cleveland that I loved. Looking in the windows was dangerous because it meant there was no way of leaving without buying a few pieces. Not since they closed their doors over a decade ago have I found a chocolatier like that one. UNTIL…Li-lac Chocolates. It’s old school and it brought back delectable memories from my past. With only four owners since 1923, this is a business that should be seen and enjoyed.
Royce’ is a Japanese based chocolatier. I was walking along Bleecker Street trying desperately to find Royce’ the day before my #DessertQuestNYC but when I called both NYC locations for assistance, neither employee was able to assist me. Fortunately, we happened to stumble upon it the next day. The chocolate was creamy and delicious.
Kudos to Dominque Ansel on his latest shop, Dominique Ansel KITCHEN. Without a doubt the friendliest folks work there and we appreciated the warm greeting. We (Jackie) ordered the largest garlic bread croissant I have ever seen. It reminded me of a savory elephant ear. I ordered the Hazelnut Cherry Tart and, still, find myself dreaming about it. Even if you don’t have time for everything be sure to stop here.
Bosie Tea Parlor and The Dessert Club by ChikaLicious were stops without purchases but not due to lack of interest. We still had six more scheduled stops to make and knew that there was only so much food we could eat that one day. The tea parlor looks lovely and I want to go back for their tea service. Chickalicious was on my September #DessertQuestNYC but we had to see their newest location which is open and airy and will certainly be as successful as the other locations. Be sure to try their Mille Crepe Cake that is out of this world.
There were many more stops that Jackie, Susan, I made so stay tuned for Part 3 of the #DessertQuestNYC story.
